Destin is the “Luckiest Fishing Village” … and Spring is Cobia time!

What started as a small fishing community, has now blossomed into the largest fishing fleet in the entire state.

Destin, Florida is located in the heart of NW Florida’s Panhandle, between Pensacola and Panama City Beach. What started as a small fishing community, has now blossomed into the largest fishing fleet in the entire state. Offshore, Near-Shore or In-Shore, you have many options to latch onto a variety of Florida’s famous game fish.

Man-made jetties provide a fertile environment for redfish, pompano, Spanish mackerel, grouper, bluefish, red snapper, and more. Explore further into the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico and troll for tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and swordfish.

Many of the species we mentioned above only migrate through the Destin area at certain times of the year.  During the spring months Cobia is bountiful, and prefer the warm offshore waters in the spring, then proceed further South during the warmer summer months. Spanish and King mackerel have similar characteristics when it comes Springtime fishing in Destin.

For larger game fish, venture further into the Gulf, about 12 miles out, you reach the famous Destin Drop-off , where the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico coastline drastically drop off at the  “100-fathom curve” where all the game fish can be found. This is where you will find wahoo, mahi, and sailfish , so prepare for a long and exciting day of fishing.
